Common is so Uncommon

As I sit in my class with the faculty solving a simple problem and yelling at us, saying, “where have we lost our common sense’, He declares ‘The common sense has become so uncommon these days”

I start wondering what actually hasn’t become uncommon.

Human intellectual is something that has very less of a competition. The thoughts that it generates are innumerous and are matchless. I would say only one word would describe intellectual well – “It’s AMAZING”. We actually are born with the uncommon thinking ability.

There was a time where in we were made to do certain things in certain way, something like follow the path that everyone followed.

Then as we grew up and started to think out of the box, we did the same thing in many innovative ways. This of course was a great revolution in liberalizing our monotonous thought process.

But I feel then started a phase, where in we started getting a notion that unless you do things in an uncommon way, you are still a below average person who lacked the ability to think out of box.

A phase which I would like to term as “Obsession of being Uncommon”

Seeing through these developments that’s happening around, I ask myself,

“Is being common something really bad?

Or is the obsession of being uncommon something good?

Aren’t we losing some good commonness in us while we are occupied in competition within ourselves trying to become uncommon in everything that we do?

I feel we are…..

From ideas .... to actions

Each individual is super creative.

The habits and routines that he adapts turns him into mediocre soul, by being so- it is quite difficult to quantify what we have actually lost.

Ideas pop up in each individual’s mind almost at all the times. The sources for ideas are countless; at times we get weird ideas when we are walking down the sidewalks, at times it’s from the article that we read in a newspaper. Even when staring at stars or sipping hot coffee our mind generates lots of good outputs.

The question is, if there are so many ideas around us why on earth are we still mediocre? Why are we doing the same boring things that we hate doing?

Where do the ideas disappear? Why aren’t we able to implement them?

The answer to this question was pretty simple, “Our brain actually does things that make us feel good rather than what actually is good”

We feel good thinking about the idea, but articulating the thoughts into action isn’t so much pleasant thing! We have to go through some pain to do the action.

We do not feel good to take a piece of paper, write down our idea, research about its practicality…… and so on. And we procrastinate action till the idea is almost killed.

As said by Robin Sharma “The best leader never leaves the site of a good idea without doing something- no matter how small – to breathe some life into it.

Don’t just let your idea die its own death even before it’s born.

Start acting on your ideas! Give it a new life

Un-defining the Happiness

I like talking to different individuals.

When I meet any new individual, I try to ask them what do they crave for in their life and what is that they give priority for?

Each of them has their own stories defining their priorities and cravings!!

I feel until and unless a few things or someone triggers a thought in our mind, our mind will never think something different apart from our regular routine stuffs.

When I asked myself the question, what is that I give priority for?

I could only think of one thing “Happiness”

Amidst the stressful life that each and every one has, especially in the so called “corporate world” there will always be a feel of something missed out elements, i.e “Happiness”

In the race portraying our life to everyone around us, we have started to accept an informal definition of happiness.

Where in the importance has been shifted from being happy to showing that we are happy.

Happiness is something that comes without any definition. It’s just a feeling that is purely felt. The things that make one happy may not at all be relevant to some other individual.

Don’t just rely on other's definition of happiness, and assume the same things will make you happy. At the end of the day You will decide your happiness.

You are unique!!

You are special!!

You have your own set of stuffs that make you happy.

Start cherishing that uniqueness and un-define the "Happiness"

Peer Pressure: Doing things that need not actually be done.

Most of the times, I ride with a colleague of mine to office. A good thing about the ride is discussion of random topics that enlighten each of us.

It so happened that we started discussing about one topic that affects each of us in our life “Peer Pressure”

It is said by few great people that “You are average of the five people you most associate with”

Right from the simplest of the decisions that we make in our life, to the biggest of choices, the people around us have an impact.

If we go with the definition, Google defines peer pressure as ‘influence from members of one’s peer group’. In simple words, if someone has an ability to control/modify a few things in your life, its peer pressure.

From a very small age, we grew up following the words or action of others. To do anything we sought out the consent of others. May it be parents or some other individual; there was someone whose words would effect on what we do.

In a healthy way, it’s good to have people, who would guide us towards the path of success, but what often we can see is, peer pressure preventing us from going to a greater scale.

I feel Knowingly or unknowingly, we tend to become victim of peer pressure, which would make us obliged to do certain things which we were not intended to do.

Something such as because of the peer group, we end up going to a Pub and try a pint or waste time hanging out at malls doing absolute nothing of great value….

We may even be at such situation which would make us feel awkward in the group to not do something which you actually know it as something of no use or which is harmful to you.

The examples of decisions that we take because of peer pressure are way too numerous.

It’s better for us to understand very quickly that,

“If you give someone the power to feed you, you have given them power to starve you as well”

So be a bit careful whom you associate with and to whom you give the liberty to affect the decisions you make.

Surround Positivity and spread the same.
