Being Happy.

I often ask people with whom I am comfortable about their aims and few morals or principles that they follow in their life.

When I was texting an old classmate of mine, I asked her what was the principle that she followed and admired the most; to which she said ‘Being happy with what I have rather than keep longing for more’

I felt, it surely was a fabulous thought; very few people in this world would be content with what they actually have and not want something more to be happy.

Each one of us has desires deep inside us, it may be either to make money or own a big house or a branded car or for the matter of fact any of those expensive or cool stuffs.

The desire may even turn out to be few inexpensive things like scoring the highest marks in the examination or winning at some sports meet or so.

We often give out our hundred percent to achieve or fulfill our desires, we toil days and nights together for the fulfillment. In spite of that we may actually not reach the extent that we had thought.

We may turn out to be the second best in the exam or sports or we could only afford a little bit smaller house or buy something less expensive.

When that happens we would obviously be hurt, and feel there isn’t happiness in not having the best of the things.

But what we fail to realize is the happiness totally lies in us, it lies in how we see and take the things.

It’s one of the best feelings in the world when we feel satisfied and are happy with what we have achieved and with the things that we have; there wouldn’t be any bad feeling on not getting the best.

I would like to  conclude the article by quoting the lines that I had once read about being happy with the things that we have.

“I cried because I had no shoes until I saw a man who had no feet”

The essence of Promise.

Robin Sharma is a very well-known self-help writer. In one of his book he had spoken about keeping the promises made to others.

We as a person make lots of promises to a number of individuals who come into our life.

Promises that are as big as getting them an expensive vehicles or as small as spending an evening with them.

With the busy and tight schedules of ours, the memories of unimportant issues which are to be fulfilled are often neglected.

I feel the broken promises won’t be a matter of great significance when the one whom you promise is similarly as busy as you, but as and when the person to whom you made promise values it significantly, there will be a small black spot for you inside their heart.

There would always arise a question asking are small promises really necessary to be fulfilled?

I would say of course yes! Promises are promises no matter whether they are small or big. It doesn’t really matter if promises are significant or insignificant to you.

If you know it in advance that the smallest of small promise cannot be fulfilled, it would really be better to say it to that person about not able to fulfill. In fact it would be better to avoid making those promises which is hard to deliver.

The way how other persons look at you changes completely as and when you tend to fulfill the promises you do. A significant amount of goodwill is seen in you when you do not break the promises.

The relationships surely become stronger and stronger as and when the promised things are delivered without glitches.

Why break promises and break the heart? Instead promise only stuffs which can be fulfilled! The positive result is sure to be seen soon.

Learning about yourself.

Learning is one of the most important processes that never ends. We can learn from everything and about everything.

From a very tender age we start to learn various things, right from crawling and eating as kids to driving a car or flying a plane as we grow up. We keep on learning.

We learn alphabets, poems, stories and many more things when we are at schools. Then we choose subjects to learn as we grow up and go to college.

We learn things which our parents or friends have advised us. We also learn extra things that our teachers recommend. We learn few more things so that it makes us different than others at large, technically which makes us better than others.

At times we learn few things which we won’t even know why we have learnt it. We think it might come to use someday.

I feel in the conquest of learning many more things to be better than others or so, we tend forget to start learning about ourselves.

I feel we don’t even know what it actually is to learn about ourselves.

Few of the basic things such as our physical, mental or social needs are forgotten to be learnt by us in the tight schedule of learning everything else.

We forget to learn about our very own body unless or otherwise it’s a necessity or too late. Something like understanding our physical strength or capability is not at all a fact of concern to us.

We even fail to understand and learn about our mind, its necessities and improvements. Few simple things such as what makes us feel good! Or what helps to lift our bad mood! Is hardly given time to understand.

A question would surely arise in our mind at end asking what is the use of learning so much of others when you have failed to learn completely about yourself?

Is it worth it?

Purpose makes a difference.

When I was having a conversation with a close one of mine, he pointed me out the importance of having a purpose in one’s life.

We all do many a thing in our life. Very often knowing what we do and sometimes not knowing what we have done.

Anything that’s done without purpose will surely seem meaningless at some point of time.

Many times it feels utter hopeless when we go on doing something and at the end we don’t even know why we were doing that. Something small example such as opting for a course recommended by someone who feels it as great and you don’t even have a clue why you had opted that for.

For almost everything purposes are of great significance.

Be it anything at any field, if purpose is clearly defined, it would be very successful without doubt.

When someone starts out a business with a well-defined purpose of either making profits or providing good service or for the matter of fact anything, he would flourish well than someone who has started business without any defined purpose.

I believe Purpose comes in every small and big thing that we do. The ‘studying daily’ is for the purpose of getting a good score or improving knowledge. Exercising for a certain amount of time has its own purpose for every individual.

Reading different kind of books may have purpose of improving vocabulary to one and it may have the purpose of entertainment to other or both to yet another individual.

When you become aware of the purpose of the things that you do, there lies a very clear picture about what’s going to happen. There lies a meaning in what you do.

So basically when you finish it you would be happy as well as satisfied that the purpose is achieved rather than be clueless on what was being done.

After all, the purpose of this article was to show the significance of having purpose.

Quickness and Happiness.

In today’s world the thing that is very scarce is ‘ones time’. Everyone is busy with one or the other thing. Nothing wrong, it’s the outcome of the corporate lifestyle which we lead.

We want the things to go quickly. From the food we cook to the internet we use. Being slow isn’t an accepted thing. At times it feels as if being slow is being weak.

Right from the young age we are forced to be quick. When going to school we are said to eat our breakfast quickly. When we want to board a bus, we are said to board it quickly. Even in classes, there is quickness seen while submitting projects or while finishing off the notes.

Even when we grow up ‘The quick’ stuffs won’t slow down. Be it riding a 2 wheeler or driving a car, slow isn’t accepted, even finishing the targets given always seems good if it’s done quickly.

The thinking of ‘Happiness lies at the end’ is stuffed in our head, something like winning at the end of the race or finishing off the exam at the end of the academic year. We feel happiness is derived at the end of the process and try to finish it off quickly.

We apply the ‘Happiness at end’ policy towards everything, which makes us fail to notice the most important thing that is happiness lies in the process and not at the end result.

What we need to understand is doing the things quickly and finishing it off need not always give you happiness.

Enjoying the process of doing anything slowly surely has its own charm.

Coin crunch.

Many a times when we go to shops to buy stuffs, we get few eclairs instead of change. Toffees have almost become the currency nowadays.

The same shortage of coins or ‘The change’ is even seen while using the public transport such as bus or while taking the railway tickets. It’s evident that ‘change’ leads to numerous amount of quarrel in present days than ever before.

Why hasn’t there been a solution to meet the demand for the currency? Is the national bank of the country sleeping?

Absolutely not, how can it sleep when such a big problem lies in front of them?

There has been lot of issues of coins every year; the coin dispensing machines are installed at most of the places and many more steps too are being taken.

In spite of this the problem still persists. Why? Because of the habit which we have! i.e savings, savings in form of collecting the coins, and keeping them hoarded.

In every home we collect coins and save them. Numerous amounts of coins get hoarded even without the knowledge of people.

Not only the money saved by us, but also money put up as donations and contributions in temples, churches, mosques etc. are hoarded.

Why not we people help in minimizing the currency problem by circulating the hoarded coins in our homes? And ask our closes ones to do the same? I am sure lakhs of coins would roll out if we make up our mind to circulate the hoarded coins every week or fortnight.

Something like making certain day of the month as coin circulation day? On the day where we collect the hoarded coins at our home and circulate it?

I am sure the shopkeeper or the bus conductor would be very happy when you hand over him the exact change!

It’s always easy to say these things but hard to make it come into force.

The problem cannot be solved by banks alone; the problem is to be solved collectively. If we don’t make simple changes in our lives for betterment of society, then I feel we would lose the right to complain or blame anyone.

Marks culture.

When it comes to Indian education system, marks do play a very significant role.

Are marks important? Or are marks ‘The only important thing?’ I believe varies from individual to individual.

I was that kind of person who used to firmly say marks are the least important thing in life. Obviously there would be debate on this issue and I would point out the flaws of people scoring high marks and not taking part in any of the extracurricular activities.

I would show examples of people who keep on reading whole of the day and miss out so much of the life that lies ahead of them, the negativity complex which lies in them about going on a stage and talk in front of audience and so the examples would go on quite well.

Till the recent past I used to be proud of my way of thinking regarding the marks.

But once when I stepped into the shoes of a lower middle class person, I gradually came to understand how marks did play an important and a very significant role in their life.

Almost everything was given to the one who scored marks, the endowments, the scholarships, the attentions and what not. I felt when marks can make so much of difference to one’s life; it surely was of a great significance to them.

The perspective of ‘marks are helpful to get settled in life’ has been carved in minds of people. So it isn’t surprising when people put up their full on focus in scoring marks.

We have tended to forget that knowledge is far superior to marks and it’s what that helps us to get well in life. I feel till we keep on uplifting the people with marks, the marks culture won’t come to an end.

The day when the knowledge is valued more than marks, is the day of great significance to everyone.
